About Minnesota Fishing Guide

Duane is a successful tournament angler. He has won or placed high in the standings in many walleye, bass, and northern pike tournaments all over Minnesota. He and his wife, Sandy, won the 2005 Grand National Walleye Cup stop on Green Lake, the Little Crow Anglers Green Lake Walleye Classic in 2001, and have finished second and third in that tournament in the last six years. They also placed in the money at the KA Walleye Classic at Lake Bemidji, and the Mac's Twin Bay Walleye Tournament on Mille Lacs Lake in recent years. Duane and his partner, Todd Berghuis, won the prestigious Minnesota Pro Am Bass Tournament on the Whitefish Chain of Lakes near Brainerd in 1989. They had the heaviest weight ever taken in a tournament on that lake. Duane and Sandy also had back-to-back first places, and a second place finish in the Northerns, Inc. Northern Pike Classic in 1987, 1988, and 1990, respectively. No other team has ever won more than once.

In the past few years, Duane has guided television host Gary Howey of Outdoorsman Adventures for several filming trips in the Willmar Area. Our fishing trips provided TV footage of some great smallmouth bass action on Green Lake. Duane and Sandy are both members of Team Outdoorsmen Adventures.

Duane has also made three fishing segments for the local cable access TV channels in Willmar. The segments have been put together into a promotional video that runs various times throughout the year. Watch the video on this website.

From 1983 through 1988 Duane worked for Babe Winkelman Productions in Brainerd, Minnesota. He was the company's Advertising and Public Relations Manager. As part of his responsibilities, he guided corporate clients and television sponsors' executives throughout the summer months. During the time he worked for BWP, Duane fished over 100 days a year, on over 70 different lakes. He was also a 3-time professional guide for the Camp Confidence Celebrity Fishing Tournament.

Duane has also presented seminars on a variety of fishing topics over the last 20 years. He speaks on topics such as locating walleyes and bass in lakes, and understanding and reading electronics.
